What is the best chess player who ever lived?

Please tell the real chess best chess player, here an answer why garry kasparov lossed from kramnik, garry kasparov quited chess he is tired and join russian politics, but who is the real best chess player?|||This is hard to answer as you can't really compare players who aren't from the same era. If we look at results, Garry Kasparov is by far the greatest player. However, a player like Raul Capablanca has the lowest number of errors in his games. So it's basically open to discussion.|||LOL, well thanks for giving me BA...though this is basically the only correct answer to such a question.

|||If you strictly go by the most number of years as Champion it would have to go to Emanuel Lasker as he held the title for 27 years. However, given the advancement of chess theory and computers in the modern era, the greatest player of all time would have to go to Gary Kasparov. He held the title for the longest period in modern times when there have been more Grand Masters and Super Grand Masters in history. He also achieved the highest ELO rating ever at 2851.

It is a bit subjective as chess theory continues to advance and each new champion is theoretically stronger than previous ones. It comes down to the criteria you consider to be most important in claiming such an exhaulted title. Is it number of years as reigning champ? Is it ELO rating? Is it fewest errors? This debate will rage on as long as the game is played.

Interesting question. Thank you.|||I agree with Buri. This can be influenced by many things including your style, the country you come from, etc. To me, Bobby Fischer is the best of all time, simply because there wasn't a thing over the chessboard that he couldn't do. His rating may not be as high as Kasparov's, but he also did not have the resources that Kasparov did. Also, his game was as close to flawless as any other chess player. He was an excellent endgame player, great tactician and could play a grinding positional game. Another thing that makes me like him is that he was an American representing our country against our Soviet rivals at the time. All of those things make Bobby Fischer the best in my opinion.|||Many people think Garry Kasparov because he had the highest rating (2837.) Just becasue he lost to Kramnik doesn't mean he isn't the best. every chess player has lost a chess game that playes chess. I think that many GM's were the best that were world champion though.|||Gary Kasparov is probably the greatest Chess player of all time. Vishwanathan Anand is number one in fast games.|||Karpov according to me is the best player alive. Also Garry not only retired to join politics he was also too old|||Emmanuel Lasker.|||Magnus Carlsen. Or he will be in the future. Thanks for asking. I love you. Bye.|||vishwanathan anand|||bobby fischer|||It really does depend on how you play the game and whose strategies you like best. My personal favorite is Bobby Fischer.
