What are some ways to improve your elo in chess?

I play chess alot and i watch chess alot too. Can you guys give me some advice on how to improve my elo rating? Thanks.|||Um, win.:)

You want advice on winning, the mathematical formula thing is purely a function of that.

You get told the names a few good chess books.

Besides I don't know exactly what you mean by "improve your elo."

2799 might not be as good as 1500 because it is not divisible by 100.:)|||fast checkmates.|||well to have an Official ELO you would have to play in tournaments. but if you mean how do you get Better at chess, so that you Will get a Good ELO, then i'd suggest studying chess of course.

I have used Chessmaster 10th edition, and I'm playing Very strongly.

I have just recently Defeated 1800ish rated player on instantchess. A pretty decent website, with good players. but yeah I've heard people recommend reassess your chess, and i took a peak at it, it looks pretty good, I may get it myself.

One thing that REALLY helps me is looking at Grandmaster games, i view them on chessmaster10thedition, BUT you can also see them at .

just click on search, and you can look through TONZ of games. I watch Karpov's games, because I like his play a lot. And i think it really improves mine.

the guy in the link is larry christiansen, he is a very good attacking player.|||A book I always liked is Learn From the Grandmasters, edited by (unfortunately) Raymond Keene. Each guy presents a game he learned a lot from, and then one of his best. Especially interesting was Tal's pick--where he gets drubbed by Nezhmetinov. It's also cool that two of them picked the game Johner--Nimzovich...and one criticized white's play and the other black's! Browne sent two of his own games (but I guess he didn't have time to read the letter or something). Anyway, I picked up a lot from that book.
